Matchday Insights

SoccerScanner logged 1,130 completed fixtures at 2.29 goals per game — a quieter global average than recent high-scoring boards. Over 2.5 landed in 43.1% of matches, Over 3.5 in 28.2%, and both teams scored in 38.2%. Late strikes still appeared, if less often than on busier goal days: 179 games (15.8%) produced a goal after the 80th minute, and 228 (20.2%) after the 75th.

The clearest scoring contrast sat in the featured leagues. United States Major League Soccer averaged 3.71 goals across seven matches, with Over 2.5 in 71.4%, BTTS in 85.7%, and late goals in 57.1%. China Super League sat closer to the global mean at 2.63 goals per game over eight fixtures, yet 75% of those matches still produced a late goal — including Tianjin Jinmen Tiger’s 3–2 comeback from 0–2 after the 80th against Yunnan Yukun. Scotland Scottish Cup and Scotland Premiership both averaged 2.5, while South Korea K League 1 was the standout drought among topline samples at 1.33 goals across three games (Over 1.5 in only 33.3%, BTTS in 0%).

Smaller slates pushed the ceiling higher. Every match finished Over 2.5 in Australia New South Wales NPL Youth League (5.67 goals per game), Norway 2. Division: Group 2 (5.33), Norway 3. Division - Group 4 (5.0), and Norway 3. Division - Group 1 (4.5). Zero-goal German and English regional samples in the low-scoring list were discarded as incomplete score data.

Expected-goals readings that survived quality checks clustered in MLS. Cincinnati scored 4 from 1.58 xG in a 4–2 win over SJ Earthquakes, who themselves found 2 from 0.68 xG. Philadelphia Union and Atlanta United both outran their numbers in a 3–2 finish (3 from 1.89 and 2 from 0.69). Cleaner xG gaps also stood out in CF Montréal vs New England (1.08 vs 3.76, ending 2–2) and Vancouver Whitecaps vs Los Angeles FC (2.07 vs 0.22, ending 1–1), while New York RB vs Orlando City posted the highest usable combined xG at 5.13 for 5 goals. Impossible league and team xG values elsewhere were ignored.

Shot data underlined how finishing swung match outcomes. Across the full day it took 2.05 shots on target per goal (5,308 on target, 2,588 goals), and 77 sides registered 10+ shots on target. Cincinnati turned 11 on target into 4 goals; Aberdeen converted 66.7% of three on target in a 2–1 Scotland Premiership win over Hearts; Tianjin Jinmen Tiger hit 60% from five. Wasteful boards included UAI Urquiza (17 on target, 0 goals in Argentina Primera B Metropolitana) and Shanghai Port (8 on target without scoring in China Super League).

Overall, it was a high-volume marketplace session on a subdued global scoring day — with MLS and a handful of lower leagues carrying the goals, China Super League dominating late drama, and one perfect system still finding profit against a soft overall P/L.
